Semantic  Memory:

Semantic (Long-Term) Memory, also refered to as Abstract Memory, has a huge capacity for recalling the meaning of events or objects.

It is the store house of knowledge which is routed through the Hippocampus and seated in the Neocortex (the brain's gray matter or outer layer) of the Temporal, Parietal, and Occipital lobes.

This is the form of memory for factual information that has been experienced or taught.   The source of the memory however, may not be recalled (a phenomenon known as Infantile Amnesia) !   See Infantile Amnesia
