Unconscious
 Motor Responses !
PHYSICAL MANIFESTATIONS
. . . of mental experiences: The body's Unconscious reactions to one's thoughts, (body language), are often referred to as IdeoMotor Responses. Chevreul's Pendulum Test is a demonstration of this relationship. The physical mechanism for the pendulum test is such that it amplifies the very small ideomotor movements of the muscles in a synchronous fashion with the Idea of movement, so that relatively large movements of the pendulum are produced.
In the therapeutic setting, the ideomotor response can be used to facilitate Dissociation, to deepen the Trance State, as an indicator of responsiveness and even as a means for exchange between clinician and the patient when such techniques as Automatic Writing and/or Automatic Talking are employed.
The following are examples:
Direct Suggestion
"....... As you continue to relax, you can begin to notice all the tension fading away from the muscles of your face. Just let them become as smooth and relaxed as they can possibly become! ......."
"....... As you continue to pay effortless attention to my voice, your eyelids are slowly beginning to close. Your eyelids are so heavy, and you are so relaxed, that you just let them close! ......."
Indirect Suggestion
"....... I don't think your conscious mind will know your unconscious knows about the event until your finger has lifted! ......."
